Lil Kim has been in Limbo ever since her prison release. There were reports that she was offered a deal from Jay-Z but she refused and commented on her needing to b “her” not what the record label want. She told Rap-Up.
“I did get offers from representatives from Roc Nation and I did get phone calls from representatives from Roc Nation. A couple representatives from Def Jam had also reached out to me. I think they’re both amazing companies and I think it would’ve been brilliant for me and Jay to collaborate and team up together. However it just didn’t pan out like that. Not to say that something with me and Jay can’t happen in the future, but I doubt if Jay-Z or Roc Nation will be a part of my upcoming album. He and I are really good friends. We both were excited about the idea of us collaborating and maybe me signing with Roc Nation. I think Jay-Z is letting me be Kim at this moment. I think he feels that I deserve to be Kim and also to have everything that… It’s hard for record companies to sign females these days and give them exactly what they want and need. I understand that. It’s a different world out there.” (Rap-Up)
Now from a video that was uploaded on Youtube, her performing at the HOt 107.9′s birthday Bash in Atlanta, it seems that she confirms signing to 50 Cent’s G-Unit label, joining Shawty-Lo who was also present and she was talking to.
“If y’all don’t know, this my boy right here. G-Unit South, that’s where it’s at. And I’m part of the family too, down with the G-unit camp. We got surprises for y’all.”
Is this a good business move for Lil Kim?
In related news, 50 cent lashed out at his record label.
“Ok I tried to be cool with my record company. I went to the meeting talk to everyone and sh– feels like there moving in slow motion. I’m sorry to announce I will not be releasing a new album this year if we don’t get on the same page. My whole career iv been doing sh– and they have been playing catch up this is the last f—ing album THEY BETTER WAKE UP AND WORK.”
“I tweeted something about the actual single. While I’m out here, I got a meeting, I gotta sit with Jimmy [Iovine, chairman of Interscope/Geffen/A&M], I gotta sit with the guys that push the button. I’ve done it by myself on my other albums, ’cause I got my own radio staff. And I worked the record and get it to 500 spins and then let them kick in. But I think it’s better to just go with the entire building, have everybody on deck so they understand my plans for this project.”
“I worked really hard on this album I’m not gonna let it come out like some bullsh–. There use to me just putting the first song off my new album out tonight. Ok f— it I’m putting the first song off my new album out tonight.”
