Whitney Houston - I Look To You Album Review

Whitney Elizabeth Houston, 46 years old singer who shared the past nearly 30 years bringing her amazing voice to us is finally back after a hiatus of about 7 years! Full force thanks to Clive Davis. After long road to recovery she released "I Look To You", which took about 2 years to record, so Whitney Houston said at the listening party. Yes some have said her voice is not as angelic and powerful as it used to be, but that's not what we are concentrating on, but the courage it took for her to be standing HERE with us bringing this record to us. She sold 305,000 in the first week beating her 205,000 with Just Whitney in 2002.

So i finally got around to review it. The album opens with the well known single "I Look To You", the next one left me empty featuring Akon. I don't believe Akon has the right key to bring the best out of Whitney.

"A song for you", had the typical dancing feeling to it. It wouldn't be a Whitney album if it didn't have that? I liked that one, the beat was nice and she tried to bring the best as well . 3/5

Everyone already knows "I didn't know my own strength" no need to reintroduce that one.

"Worth It", was one my favorite one, singing for the love birds out there. "this is one for the lovers, the one holding hands". 4/5

"For the Lovers", i didn't like at all, the beat didn't seem enough for Whitney, you can tell she wasn't bring the best on that one. 1.5/5

"I Got You", another one that i loved, but i won't lie it was missing the power notes, that's what it was missing for it to be nearly perfect. 3.5/5

"Salutes", sounded similar to "I Got You", same slow motion and that one as well left me to skip it.

"Million Dollar Bill", this one had a "old blues" feeling to it. The video also felt the same. The beat is fine but not one of the best i've heard But i won't lie listening, makes you want to get up and dance. 3.5/5

"Nothing But love", that song is for all the haters, those who tried to break her, take her down, she got nothing but love. Self explained. Loving the message but poor choice of beat. 3/5

Then last track.*Gasp* already? "Call You Tonight", perfect track to end the album. It seems that she is saying a personal goodbye and that we'll see her tonight. I'm sure there's a deeper message to it. 3/5

Overall the album seemed to be a tiny bit personal, obviously not as personal as some would have wished. She did send some tracks thanking god, pointing out those who thought she would never make it. Mostly the album wasn't enough for me, yes the will was there but whoever helped produce could have brought a LOT more to the album, whether getting another background singing to push up Whitney's voice. It was lacking of emotion. She talks about You thought i wouldn't make it, I couldn't feel it in her voice. Lack of emotions. If we remember the "I Will always love you" days you would feel every bit of emotion. Basically just like the album cover, who ever photo shopped it did a poor job as well, it looked like someone drew Whitney instead of taking her picture.

A short list of producers: Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz who produced Million Dollar Bill and R. Kelly - I Look To You, and some other producers that i don't personally know.

Sorry Whitney, this one isn't making it for me but just for the fact that you've tried. Everyone's happy!
