Help PC ppl

so i was lookin into the ubuntu/kubuntu thing and im thinking about trying it BUT....

1. Is it possible to install it with preexisting windows xp?
2. If so...will i lose any of my files? programs? (such as ms office)
3. any of u eva do it?


i wanna know b4 i do sumthing stupid and jus screw maself over

Partition ur hardrive and install it seperately... so u can use XP or Ubuntu when u want...

I use Ubunto on the laptop, simply cos we wanted to nose around and try it out... its cute, nothing overly special though... The laptop is a spare in my house I didnt have any files to copy over so not sure about ur 2nd question...

If u wan try it out Grab Virtual PC from M$soft for free... and run it through that.... that way you avoid having to partition ur HD... or maybe loosing some of ur files. I run Windows 7 on Virtual PC makes everyting simpler.

ubuntu is a Linux-Based Operating System..... basically... and its free like any other linux based operating system.....

ok so after i mounted the kubuntu iso file it gave me qan option to install it ontop of windows.. and dats wat i did... it neva ask bout partitioning or nothing... all that happens is wen i boot ma pc i pick whether i wanna load xp or kubuntu... and it picks xp by default if i dont press anything for however seconds


im on kubuntu now.. jus clickin and tryna teach maself.. its pretty ... still an absolute noob tho.
it has sum web browser called konqueror.. but imma find maself ova at the mozilla site and dl firefox

So u just ran the iso and it installed dual boot style by itself?.... XP still works fine?
