Members of the press can officially nix the 'self-proclaimed' adjective from any references to Beenie Killer's claim as the King of Dancehall because he was officially crowned on Thursday night.


Beenie hit the stage with the colours of dawn colouring the sky with his trademark ' dem get mi ma-ma-ma-ma-maddd', before seguing neatly into Gunshots inna the Air. He then got a big forward for his new song, Stock and Pile.

He then did two Michael Jackson songs as a tribute to the late King of Pop, doing The Girl is Mine and Heal the World, he then did his own microwaved version of Kartel's Money of My Mind with the D'angel built-in punchlne : 'not even D'Angel can talk say she own me' which the crowd loved.

However, many fans were disgruntled that they did not receive a more comprehenzie performacne from the Doctor given that the performance took place on a day when he was honoured for contribiting 30 years to the biz. Vybz Kartel also joined Beenie Man onstage during the performance doing a song called Gaza Mi Say on a hip hop sounding riddim. Beenie also solicited a big up from Kartel with regards to the award he had won earlier.

A flier circulated at Sumfest suggested that Beenie Sizzle will be held oon August 6.

but I think beenie, sean paul, elephant man etc are in the sect. I dont think beenie and bounty should be compared

In my opinion he's the most versatile artist in the dancehall industry today. He's the only one that can perform with anybody with ease, he has a song with Janet Jackson if I'm not mistaking. Compare to Elephant man and Sean Paul those guys are more commercial artists compared to Beenie. Bounty would never have a song with an R&B singer anytime soon

Versatility + Longevity . . .nobody did it like beenie for as long as he did. . . not sure who you can compare him too...Id toss bounty in there, but I always put bounty in his own category cuz that my artist

Beenie def has da success but I feel he went downhill after di Doctor. I think Buju is more consistent but he has more concious songs which unfortunately the music industry doesnt promote as much

Beenie has been consistent with his hits and relevance for decades. There is no dancehall artist that comes near Beenies successes. He has always been able to adapt, unlike other artists. Thats why he has remained on the top since before most of us even went to a dancehall.

Beenie has been doing it big since 1981
Buju has been in the industry since like 1988
Bounty has been in the industry since 1993
Sean Paul been around since like 1996
Elephant Man from mid 90'sish ... cant remember exactly


Everyone else's career has either fallen off the face of the Earth or is still too young to be considered.
