John Hype, Ding Dong tension

A massive battle has taken hold of the dance floor between John Hype and his John Squad dancers and Ding Dong and his Ravers Clavers crew.

A dance off between the two groups at last Monday's 'Flavour Mondays' street dance held on Bridle Street off Windward Road (Dun Kirk) got so intense that persons have begun to wonder if an actual war is brewing.

Macka Diamond, who attended the dance last Monday, says there was a lot of drama, but no fights actually broke out.

"A jus a competition ting, it look like it probably a guh get violent, but nuh now, cause di woman dem did all a seh too much bull yah now dem want fi dem song play like Dutty Wine an Hot Wuck. But trus mi, it did look scary but a tru a bad man tune did a play. But yuh can si seh John Hype and Ding Dong dem nuh really too get on," Macka said.

"Ding Dong did guh pon di mic an a seh Ravers Clavers an him did have more command ova di crowd...mi neva know seh it suh terrible wid di dancers dem, John Hype all light a drum pan a fire an push it guh ova weh Ding Dong dem deh, suh at one point mi tek di mic an seh 'mi nuh love what a gwaan' an Ding Dong tek di mic an a seh 'a dancing ting', but mi glad seh no fight nuh gwaan," Macka recalled.

The STAR did not get a hold of Ding Dong for a comment on the situation up to press time yesterday, but according to John Hype, there is no tension between them.

"Nutt'n like dat, a Dunkirk wi deh dis morning a dance, a bare party an love, no animosity ting. Wi lef from Uptown Mondays an guh Dunkirk, a jus a dance vibes man, nuh tension nuh deh deh. A jus party, a bare love, nuh vibes nuh deh deh man," John Hype said while laughing.

The dance off between the two groups appear to be an ongoing clash that started recently, as Shankle Dip, a member of the John Squad said, "last week we an dem (Ding Dong) did have a 'dancing war', but every ting nice.

One of the promoters of the event, 'Jim Brown' says he is not worried about any tension as he says the event has actually taken off because of the dancers getting involved.

"Right now, it (Flavour Mondays) start bout five weeks now an di three last week dem good. Since Ding Dong an John Hype dem come in an a whole heap more dancer, Ravers Clavers, Black Bling, D and G, Bone Crusher, Overmars di whole a dem," he said.

Jim Brown also says, "di real vibes start 4:00 a.m., when Hot Mondays an dem early ting deh done, everybody jus come down deh."
