Akon getting Sued Over Tossing Fan Or An Act?
Akon is being investigated by police in Fishkill, New York after footage leaked to the Internet showing him hurling a concertgoer into the crowd during a concert.
On the heels of his on-stage sex simulation with a 14-year-old girl in Trinidad – footage of which also ended up on the Internet and led to the loss of an endorsement deal with Verizon – the Senegalese singer was performing as part of WSPK-FM’s annual KFest event Sunday at Dutchess Stadium when he sought revenge on a member of the crowd.
Cell phone footage shows an object being thrown toward Akon as he addresses the fans. He stops his speech and asks audience members to point out the culprit. Once the young male is identified, Akon orders his security to bring him onstage.
The crowd erupts in cheers as Akon removes his shirt, lifts the boy like a WWF wrestler and tosses him off the stage and into the crowd. As soon as the boy hit the ground, Akon shouted to the crowd: “Now we can start the show! Yall ready?”
The victim has yet to be identified, and no word yet on whether he suffered any injuries.
"We're trying to identify that kid, just to find out whether or not we have any kind of criminal offense," Detective. Lt. John Berlingieri told the Poughkeepsie Journal. "We are looking to speak to him. No victim. No crime."
Berlingieri said talks have been held within the police department regarding the possibility of questioning Akon about the incident.
Meanwhile, some bloggers seem to believe the entire episode was staged as part of his performance. In most cases, security guards would not instigate potential violence by hand-delivering an object-throwing audience member straight to his target. Also, after the boy was thrown offstage, Akon used the incident to segue into the introduction of his next song.
“Now he got me feeling by myself,” Akon told the crowd to a spike in cheers. “I thought I had fans of support. Ain’t no reason for me to be on stage feeling like…”
On cue, the intro to his song “Lonely” was played, exciting the audience even more.
