Jefferson City, MO (The Weekly Vice) - Alyssa Bustamante, a 15-year-old Jefferson City teen was arrested after she murdered her 9-year-old neighbor because “she wanted to know what it felt like”.

According to Jefferson City police, Bustamante stabbed Elizabeth Olten, slashed her throat and buried her in one of two graves that she dug a week before the murder. Authorities will not elaborate what the other grave was for.

Investigators say a search was launched for the 4th-grader after she was reported missing October 21.

Police found what they are calling “written evidence” that led them to Bustamante, who showed them where Olten’s body was, according to investigators. Bustamante was promptly arrested.

When asked why she killed the little girl, Bustamante stated that she just wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone.

Bustamante’s friends and family describe her as a bright and normal teenager up until she was 13, when she tried to commit suicide. She had been receiving mental help for her depression.

Bustamante had many online profiles, some of which speak of “pain and terrors”. Bustamante has a video on YouTube where her and her brothers were shocking themselves on an electric fence. Her YouTube profile lists her favorite hobbies as “killing people” and “cutting”.

Bustamante’s profile and video have since been removed from the site.

Bustamante was placed in juvenile detention and charged with first degree murder. Prosecutors say she'll stand trial as an adult.

Nathalie Blanchard, 29, has been on leave from her job at IBM in Bromont, Que., for the last year and a half after she was diagnosed with major depression.

The Eastern Townships woman was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits from Manulife, her insurance company, but the payments dried up this fall.

When Blanchard called Manulife, the company said that "I'm available to work, because of Facebook," she told CBC News this week.

She said her insurance agent described several pictures Blanchard posted on the popular social networking site, including ones showing her having a good time at a Chippendales bar show, at her birthday party and on a sun holiday — evidence that she is no longer depressed, Manulife said.

Blanchard said she notified Manulife that she was taking a trip, and she's shocked the company would investigate her in such a manner and interpret her photos that way.

"In the moment I'm happy, but before and after I have the same problems" as before, she said.

Blanchard said that on her doctor's advice, she tried to have fun, including nights out at her local bar with friends and short getaways to sun destinations, as a way to forget her problems.

She also doesn’t understand how Manulife accessed her photos because her Facebook profile is locked and only people she approves can look at what she posts.

Insurer confirms it uses Facebook
Her lawyer Tom Lavin said Manulife's investigation was inappropriate.

"I don't think for judging a mental state that Facebook is a very good tool," he said, adding that he has requested another psychiatric evaluation for Blanchard.

"It's not as if somebody had a broken back and there was a picture of them carrying with a load of bricks," Lavin said. "My client was diagnosed with a major depression. And there were pictures of her on Facebook, in a party or having a good time. It could be that she was just trying to escape."

Manulife wouldn't comment on Blanchard's case, but in a written statement sent to CBC News, the insurer said: "We would not deny or terminate a valid claim solely based on information published on websites such as Facebook." It confirmed that it uses the popular social networking site to investigate clients.

Insurance companies must weigh information found on such sites, said Claude Distasio, a spokeswoman for the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association.

"We can't ignore it, wherever the source of the information is," she said. "We can't ignore it."

Four pupils at the Gasparillo Secondary School have been suspended from classes for beating a parent and his daughter outside the school last Friday.

The pupils are now being investigated by police.

Principal Samuel Owen said yesterday it was an isolated incident at a school that was excelling.

Last Friday’s incident happened after classes ended for the day.

An eyewitness said the parent drove his car onto the school’s compound and the vehicle almost struck a pupil. The witness said ’the pupils pulled the man out of his car and started beating him severely and went further to damage the man’s car’.

The man’s daughter tried to stop the attack. But the witness said ’she, too, was badly beaten. She ran into a bus trying to hide, and six girls followed her into the bus and started beating her. The child was crying out to teachers who were passing to help her; the security guard was sitting behind a desk at the booth, and no one came to help her’.

A school official said the parent may have provoked the attack.

’He should have probably turned the car around and come back to the school and reported the incident, but he chose to get out of the car,’ the official said.

CYBERSPACE has erupted with talk of two Miss Universe contestants involved in a threesome with a fine arts photographer.

Miss Universe Japan 2008 Hiroko Mima and Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2008 Anya Ayoung-Chee are said to have had sex with Anya's boyfriend Wyatt Gallery, and with each other.

Some websites even claim to have an intimate video of the alleged sexual escapades of the trio.

One website claimed it had four videos, along with pictures, of the two girls and Wyatt "having a really good time."

The website also made comparisons with Carrie Prejean, a former Miss California who lost her crown following the release of her semi-nude photos. Later on, the discovery of a sex tape featuring Prejean created more controversy.

The website said: "Carrie Prejean may be getting an offer for a one-time payment to allow her solo tapes to be sold and distributed, but Hiroko and Anya should get full-time contracts. These two girls are pros."

According to local Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News, the sex clips range from 2 minutes to 13 minutes 25 seconds. It also reported that people who have downloaded the clips have made a four-minute 'digest' version of it.

Shin Min also reported that it was Gallery who first managed to gain access into Anya's hotel room, and the pair 'got it on' in front of Hiroko.

However, instead of turning away, it was Hiroko who first began taping the sex act and then later join in the 'fun'.

A Miss Universe pageant spokesman responded to the scandal by saying: "This was apparently eight months after the pageant and neither were the reigning titleholder.

"The photographer is not a Miss Universe staffer so we have nothing to say or any involvement, thank goodness."

Celebrity website TMZ, however, said the sex tape was only half as authentic.

The website claimed to have spoken to Gallery who said the footage was stolen from his laptop in an attempt to sabotage Anya's career.

According to TMZ, Gallery confirmed Anya was in the video. However, the other woman was not Hiroko but "just a really, really, really close friend."

"I feel horrible and embarrassed for Anya, her family and myself ... because this was a private moment that was never supposed to be made public. This was an intentional, malicious sabotage against Anya and her career ... and I feel stupid for not deleting the files off of my computer," Gallery told TMZ.

The footage is believed to have been shot in New York in 2007.

Hiroko attended Nihon University and her major is physical education.

Shortly after losing her grandmother, who died when she slipped on the bathroom floor, Mima lost her father in a car accident before winning Miss Universe Japan 2008.

Anya hails from the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago, born in the very cosmopolitan city of Port-of-Spain, the only girl in a family of eight, according to Wikipedia.

From an early age she pursued classical ballet training. However, it was during her attendance at an all girls secondary school that she discovered her true calling lay in art and design.

She continued her education in London and New York, gaining experience in Graphic and Interior Design.

For the record, Venezuela's Stefania Fernandez, 18, made history, beating 82 competitors to win the Miss Universe crown in August for her country's second consecutive victory.

It can be, but considering the way it’s prepared at many movie theaters, you may want to fill up on a fruit salad before you go and steer clear of the concession stand altogether.

New laboratory tests conducted by the non-profit Center for Science in the Public Interest reveal that a $12 medium-popcorn-and-soda combo sold at Regal, the country’s largest movie-theater chain, contains 1,610 calories and 60 grams of saturated fat — the equivalent of three McDonald’s Quarter Pounders with 12 pats of butter.
The traditional movie fare served up at other theaters around the country can be equally heart-stopping, according to the center’s findings:

At AMC theaters, serving sizes are smaller but can still pack a wallop. A large popcorn has 1,030 calories and 57 grams of saturated fat — the equivalent of a pound of baby back ribs topped with a scoop of Häagen-Dazs ice cream, but with more fat.
At Cinemark, which pops its popcorn in heart-healthy canola oil, a large popcorn has 910 calories with 4 grams of saturated fat. “Though popping in canola gives this chain’s popcorn far less saturated fat than its competitors, it’s almost as high in calories and has the most sodium — about twice as much as Regal or AMC,” the Center for Science in the Public Interest said in a statement.
The giant sodas served at the movies also take a toll, the study said. To name just one example, a 54-ounce large soda at Regal has 33 teaspoons of sugar and 500 empty calories.
And don’t forget about the candy: A 5-ounce bag of Twizzlers contains 15 teaspoons of sugar. A 7-ounce box of Nerds contains 46 teaspoons of sugar. And an 8-ounce bag of Reese’s Pieces contains 1,160 calories and 35 grams of saturated fat.
“Sitting through a two-hour movie isn’t exactly like climbing Mount Everest,” said Jayne Hurley, senior nutritionist for the Center for Science in the Public Interest. “Why do theaters think they need to feed us like it is?”

Give us our buttery popcorn!
Theater managers say the reason is clear: They’re simply giving customers what they expect and crave when they head out to the movies.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest released similar findings about movie popcorn back in 1994, and many theaters responded at that time. They began offering their customers extra choices, including air-popped popcorn.

But it was a complete flop.

“After very little time, movie patrons in droves made their voices heard — they wanted the traditional popcorn back,” the National Association of Theatre Owners said in a statement.

Greg Dunn, president and chief operating officer of Regal Entertainment Group, agreed.

“The alternative choices were not well received by our theater guests,” Dunn said. “Based on sales and feedback from our patrons, we offer a selection of concession items that reflect the preferences of our customers.”

Dunn also noted that the average American attends six movies a year.

“Theater popcorn and movie snacks are viewed as a treat and not intended to be part of a regular diet,” Dunn said.

AMC declined to comment for this story. Cinemark noted that in addition to popping its popcorn in canola oil, which is low in saturated fat and trans-fat free, the theater chain also makes a wide range of healthy concession options available to guests, including pretzel nuggets, bottled water, diet sodas and topping-free and salt-free popcorn.

“We frequently test market additional concessions alternatives, including trail mix and other low-fat snacks,” said James Meredith, vice president of marketing and communications for Cinemark USA Inc. “Ultimately, our snack and refreshment options are driven by patron demand.”

The perils of coconut oil
Hurley, the nutritionist with the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said the use of coconut oil is what poses a real threat to moviegoers’ arteries.

“Regal and AMC — the two largest chains — are popping in the worst possible oil: coconut oil,” said Hurley, who writes about the study’s findings in the December issue of the Nutrition Action Healthletter. “Coconut oil is 90 percent saturated. Lard is 40 percent.”

Hurley also complained about the lack of nutritional information being given to customers.

There’s no nutrition information posted on movie theater menu boards — just the price — so people have really no idea,” she said.

Giant portions and mindless over-snacking don’t help matters, either, said Dr. Gregory Plemmons, who runs a weight management clinic at Vanderbilt University.

“If you’re engrossed in the movie, you’re just sort of sitting there munching and you don’t realize how full you’re getting,” Plemmons said.

But even if customers are armed with ample health-related information, theater managers remain convinced that buttery popcorn, massive sodas and sugary candies will continue to top their lists of favorite items.

“Moviegoers have a variety of choices at our concession stands,” said Dunn of Regal. “We acknowledge that some are healthier than others.”

For her part, though, Hurley said the choice is obvious:

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. - A 37-year-old father irate over hearing his 15-year-old son had sexual contact with a 3-year-old girl made the teen strip at gunpoint, marched him to a vacant lot and shot him to death despite pleas from the boy and his mother, a relative said.

Michigan authorities filed a first-degree murder charge Wednesday against Jamar Pinkney Sr. in the shooting death Monday of Jamar Pinkney Jr. in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park.

Defense attorney Corbett O'Meara said prosecutors should consider evidence of the father's state of mind over the sex abuse report.

"If something were to happen that would cause a reasonable person to lose control of himself, that is something the prosecution would have to take into account," O'Meara said outside Highland Park District Court.

Tensions were high in the courtroom Wednesday as the handcuffed suspect was led into the room for the arraignment, which lasted less than a minute.

"No, No, No," one female relative cried before a police officer escorted her out.

‘Hard to deal with’
Judge Brigette Officer entered a not guilty plea for Pinkney, who's also charged with assault, and ordered him jailed without bond until a preliminary examination Dec. 1.

"This is something that's hard to deal with for all the parties concerned, including the police," police Chief Ted Caldwell said afterward. "Highland Park is a small city. These are people who have been members of the community for years."

Caldwell said the sexual misconduct allegation that led to the confrontation wasn't part of the police investigation.

The shooting happened Monday night in a vacant lot in the once-prosperous city of 16,000, where decay, abandonment, fires and demolition have eaten away at many of the sprawling homes. Highland Park recently exited years of state financial oversight.

Visitors built an impromptu memorial at the shooting site. Two votive candles sat amid 10 stuffed animals, including two white teddy bears with red hearts embroidered with, "I love you."

The boy's mother, Lazette Cherry, told the Detroit Free Press that her son told her he had improper sexual contact with the girl.
"I called and told his father. This isn't something you sweep under the rug," she said.

Cherry said the elder Pinkney arrived at the home with a gun, ordered his son to strip and marched him outside despite her protests.

"He got on his knees and begged, ‘No, Daddy, no,’ and he pulled the trigger," Cherry said.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (WPIX) - The father of a boy who accused Michael Jackson of molesting him 15 years ago was found dead of an apparent suicide, Jersey City Police confirmed to PIX News.

According to authorities, the body of Evan Chandler was discovered in his Jersey City residence at about 5:35 p.m. on Nov. 5 after he went missing.

Chandler, who was being treated for an unknown illness, missed an appointment with his doctor which prompted concern, Jersey City spokesperson Stan Eason said.

After several failed attempts to get in touch with his patient, the doctor, who was not immediately identified, called the building's concierge to check on Chandler.

The concierge later discovered the victim's lifeless body inside the apartment at the Liberty Towers located on Hudson Street, Eason said.

Police say Chandler suffered a self inflicted gun shot wound to the head. Authorities are treating the case as a suicide.

It was back in 1994, when Chander's then-12-year-old son Jordy Chandler accused Jackson of molesting him on several occasions between 1991 and 1994. The father and son went after the King of Pop in court and later settled the case for a reported $20 million.

In 2006, Jordan Chandler filed a request for a restraining order against his father after he allegedly struck Jordan over the head from behind with a twelve and a half pound weight.

In the wake of Jackson's untimely death in June 2009, an internet rumor surfaced that claimed Jordan Chandler confessed to lying to police about being molested by Jackson. Jordan was coached by his father to tell the outlandish story in a scheme to get millions, the report claimed. An investigation later determined no such confession took place.
