Black Women : Improper Weave/ Braid Removal Explains The Serious Hair lost Damage

BLACK WOMEN could be at risk of severe hair loss because many of them don’t know how to properly take out braids

weave and other hair extensions, says a New York-based hair care company.

Sheila Smith, spokeswomen for hair care company Tangled Hair Techs, told Taylor Media Services: “As consumer demand for braids, dreadlocks and hair extensions has grown, clients have become less knowledgeable about proper removal processes.”

She said this lack of knowledge can lead to “serious damage, hair loss, and in some cases, severely tangled or matted hair.”

She added that some hairdressers also make the issue worse by using improper methods to remove hair.

i can believe this..i see a lot of women with receding hair lines...and the sad thing is that it then becomes a cycle because the weaving and all of that stuff is thining out and damaging the hair but then you have to keep wearing them to hide the receding line and the damage...the first time i saw naomi campbell's hairline i was shocked bc i thought someone with her "status" would have taken better care of her hair but i guess all the years of weaves caused irreversible damage...i have a friend that has braids and the front of her hair is so thin now it looks painful...she has tried just about everything to try to get it to grow back..has even gone to see doctors...but so far nothing has worked for her...

One reason i'm not into braiding and refuse to wear weave......i did the mistake of cutting my hair and isn't growing as fast...but it seemed after braiding i lost my hair even worst...so i just try to treat...instead of using elastic i use those hair clip that looks like combs...wrap my hair differently etc...and it seems to have been working fine

The thing is i don't think it's just about the removal is HOW people put the weave as well...Glued weave certain sewed on weave...those lace front wigs especially (from what i've heard) Guess i'll look less fabulous with my natural hair

thats true...all of that stuff has to weaken the hair follicles which i would think can cause it to break off and fall out...

most of them seem to be wearing the lace front one it's a WIG that goes all over your head up to your forehead and you hide it with make up (that's what theys ay beyonce's wearing) i fully don't beleive they wear the sewed on anymore

I think she was one of the first models to wear weaves so her lack of haircare experience is obvious

I was amazed a few years ago at this Beyonce frontlace pic

I dont ever want to use glue. I just make sure I take out my hair slowly and I try to make sure my hair gets lots of sun and is left natural. Not letting your hair breathe in my case is one of the worse things.
