Condoms catch up with the Pill as most popular birth control method for younger women
Condoms catch up with the Pill as most popular birth control method for younger women: survey
For young women, condoms are now as popular as the birth control pill, according to a new survey in the UK. Britain's Office for National Statistics revealed 25% of women under the age of 50 last year use condoms for birth control while the same amount use the pill, reports the Daily Mail. This is the first time the two methods have been used equally since statistics have been collected. Last year the numbers showed the pill slightly ahead for young ladies, 28% compared to 24% who used condoms. The numbers could reflect a (Euro) 5.2 million national Department of Health ad campaign that urged women - with cheeky slogans like "Let's get you ready for the ride of your life" - to use more condoms, according to the Daily Mail. Other methods for this age group included partner sterilization (11%), self-sterilization (6%) and long-term hormonal contraception (11%). But whatever the method of choice, the number of women using birth control is high. Three out of four of the 1,093 young women surveyed say they use some form of contraception, according to the Daily Mail. Women over the age of 50, according to the survey, rely mostly on sterilization. Condoms catch up with the Pill as most popular birth control method for younger women: survey |
