They speak on the struggle of wanting to keep your hair natural or with chemicals and the everyday struggle of black people and hair. In the second clip we have kids talking about hair and wow my heart broke. This episode was put up after Chris Rock spoke to Tyra about his Documentary. Some parents didn't wanted to date a black man so she doesn't have a kid with nappy hair.. There's 5 parts please watch the others. I Consider good hair anything that you can manage....Silky, Curly, Afro etc
you are right the ppl i know with dreads do take care of them and moisturize/oil them and make sure they are neatly twisted and what not..it looks really nice to me....when i see it like the one in that pic i just figure that he doesnt take care fo his u know....doesnt moisturize and oil his or go to get them twisted or any of that which is why its not neat...at least thats how i saw it and thats what i thought
do you think that some of the chemicals like the relaxers, gels, etc are what make the hair more difficult to manage the next time around...so it become like a cycle...its more difficult so u have to use them but the more u use them the more damage u do....
I don't fully agree about the perm damaging your hair...I believe anything you abuse and do not use correctly would damage anything....
I do believe people shouldn't be perming it every 1-2 months like some say...instead use the straighting iron to make it last etc etc and yes it is a circle..make you want to use it more and more.
As for making it more difficult to manage i wouldn't know....i only started perming my hair because my mom took one of my aunts advice to do so because my hair was just getting thicker. Why she followed? i'm not sure but whatever. Do i still do it? yes at times but i use the mild one and don't leave it as long. If i could would i have choose another way? yes i would have...Do i care? no my daily thing is brush scratch wrap and go.
So i do see why some people do it gosh i've seen some steal wool and wow!

@blue it depends how tight, thick your naps are like some i've seen the comb breaks in their hair because it's so tough and some of them nothing helps to manage it and even PERM sometimes i've seen isn't enough.
I'm sure you've seen some people who go dread , because mostly you see these naps etc. You are probably used to see those people that have softer hair going dread and it looks fully and shiny but some just don't have that shiny in them.
And as for even if people go natural the industry would not be done because some would still have to buy A LOT of these products to keep their hair shiny, moisturize etc...
What i really never could understand is these people. Fine you wanna wear weave and hair piece but why do they have to be SO LONG? like these i see are nearly all the way to their butt? why does it have to be blond? you're black you were NOT meant to be fully blond? you know? these are what i wonder. You want to wear the weave to look natural like its yours? but that mostly no one is natural!?!?
i actually know someone...not a friend of mine but friend of a friend..who married a latin guy bc of that same reason and he treated so badly and even when they were getting divorced she wanted another child and she said out of her own mouth that she would rather have his child even after they got divorce because her first child had light skin and pretty hair and she didnt want a chid with "bad hair"....now i never had any respect for her as a woman even before that but that kinda sealed my impression of her...
well blue on the manageability front:
honesetly when ur hair is natural (atleast in my case) jus combing thru it is a painful issue... i remember wen i was little and ma mom would braid my hair i wud bawl livin yeye wata... so wen its softer its jus plain "easier to manage" in a sense
so it can be braided but its just painful...do u think that a moisturizing conditioner or a deep condtioner you know like the ones u leave in for like 30 mins would have helped make it a little softer and more manageable...or any other way other than relaxing...

Blue's favorite's subject......lol. Even as a black man I find this subject interesting too and that's after watching half the first video. Gonna endup watching all 5 parts.....**eats popcorn**
not really..just one i dont know much about bc its such a touchy subject i have avoided talking about it even with my friends which i know is cowardly of me but the couple of times i have tried to bring it up with them i could see them go into defensive mode so i just dropped it...its the same as the topic about skin tone...altho i have talked to one of my white friends about the skin tone thing and she was just floored bc her reaction was that to white ppl they dont see the different skin tones they just know that you are black or not....but anyway thats another topic...
Blue you know already what i'm going to say SPEAK judge, you'll learn even more...This is what we are all here...to discuss, learn etc
the last one with the mother who wont introduce the daughter to ppl bc she went natural was just heartbreaking and truly ignorant....but the explanation by the author of the book made some sense...altho i think the reasons they gave for it has evolved into not just necessity and survival but more into whats considered beautiful...many of the women keep saying its a matter of manageability not beauty....and i think thats a part that i need to learn more about bc i dont understand how unmanageable can it be...bc i know a few ppl with dreads and thats as natural as it gets yet their hair seem soft to me and it grows so fast and looks so healthy which makes me think that that is how that hair is supposed to be...so maybe i need to see it w/o the dreads....the tighter coil that they were talking about to truly understand why it is so unmanageable....then the part where the lady is talking about all the things she doesnt do bc she doesnt want to mess up her hair..and just how much money african american women spend on hair was really mind boggling...as i said i learned a lot though..but ill wait for chris rocks movie to see his angle....but can u imagine what would happen to the hair industry if black women decided to just go natural...wow...

The woman who had a baby with a man from another race just so it had 'good hair' is insane....that's real sad
**clicks on part 4**
