So I was talking to this girl on my block and we got in a discussion about black history month and I was telling her some of my feelings on how I feel black history should be celebrated everyday and that everyday to me is a black history day. Well don't you know that girl said to me that she didn't know that Jamaicans and Africans cared about black history month...and I'm like okay why would you say something like that and she goes well because your not Black your Jamaican. So for the record if you are Caribbean or African you have no part in Black history month. I also considered my self to be a black man although I was born in Jamaica I realize my roots come from Africa I realize I had slaves in my family, I realize I have a legacy of black people that made history....so why is it that I don't count as Black, so if I am not Black what am I ? Anyway am I the only person that get that reaction from Black Americans? And you know what while I am at it.....I noticed that Africans and Caribbeans are so racist against Black Americans...its a disgrace, so I'm wondering if there are any Caribbean people that feel that they don't have to celebrate black history month because they feel that they are not black? I felt like I was obliged to celebrate Black History Month because I am black and just like you've mentioned our roots are from africa....I don't know what to say about that comment, because reading it kind've made me mad because I feel like its a bit of a discrimination because I see it like this if u take a jamaican, a haitian, an african, and an african american and put them in one room you won't be able to tell who is who, all you can tell is that we're all black

Exactly I'm just not understanding why I would 60 to 70 % of the Black Americans I have met don't consider African and Caribbean people black. I don't want to seem shallow but America has really blinded our people and turned our one anothers against each other...its a sad state, because I know Jamaican people who can't stand their own Black brothers just based on the fact that they are American born and God help me don't let me start with the Africans and their better than thou attitudes....I mean its really discouraging.

Its not that I have a problem with what you are saying...its just that there are many of us who consider ourselves black because we are of some african descent but still some ppl dont see us as black...which is so ridiculous to me..Its just stupid (and that is a word i hate using), but it is stupid... the idea that nationality defines race....RACE is RACE and has nothing to do with GEOGRAPHY.....and we are fools to fight against each other and allow the divide and conquer mentality to be perpetuated....

Yes , exactly some people are so brainwashed these days and a lot of people has turned against their own..........and its really ridiculous......this brings me back to something that happened in my high school a few years ago, For some reason it was like a war against the jamaicans and americans, and its crazy because we are all one and everyday 70% of the whole school would go to the park nearby and the jamaicans and americans would all just start fighting........and someone would always get stabbed or jumped or shot.........and its just crazy because when i go somewhere I can't really tell who is african, jamaican, haitian, guyanese, trini, panamanian, I just know that we're all black....and thats all that should matter

I really don't want to generalise but it seems i may have to but what the american said about u not being blk is typical of the ignorance and lack of awareness blk americans have about there roots and there history. How could she say something so ignorant and stupid like you're not blk you're j'can?? is this what Marcus Garvey died for?? the civil rights every body fought for so blk americans can have some rights and they she turns around and says that we will not be bothered about blk history month??

its being a long while since i heard anything so stupid lacking of any kind of intelligence. its comments like that that will keep the massive wall between the african/caribbeans and americans even stronger.

Well I know this is going to draw in plenty of heat from my fellow Jamaican people but I have to speak the truth where it needs to be spoken...The reason why other Islands want to separate themselves from Jamaica because there are several Jamaican people who act like Jamaica is the only place in the Caribbean that exists. I am a Jamaican and I have seen it done and I will correct anyone around me that does it. I love my country but just because its my land of birth does not give me or anyone else the right to degrade other places on God's earth. Africans degrade black american people because they have no real tangible evidence that their roots come from africa, African feel that they are the better black because they come from Africa and thats wrong. I feel sorry because if this was Jim Crow days all of our black asses would be on the back of the bus Jamaicans, Africans, trinis, and its ashame that it would even take me to reference back to Jim crow days to make my own people understand that we are all the same. We have to learn to unite.

I know, it has even gotten to the fact that White British children that were born in South Africa during the Apartheid are considered African, and while yes technically they are African born they are not African in nature to me, which is why I must apologize for a view point that I held for many years about children that were born in America or other countries to Jamaican parents. You could never be american especially if you have to parents from a different country, while your birth papers may state on thing, your blood line is totally different....So I have changed my view points on certain situations.

well it's like this shotta...i get that all the while ur not black ur jamaican...and i jus have to step back and really look at these people like their crazy.to me black history month is cool..i'm glad what Mr. King,Malcom,and miss Parks did for black african americans in america..but the thing is even though i was born here i don't consider myself american,my roots are jamaican and i jus so happened to be born here....my black history is my fam...generations who everytime i go back home i look at their tomb stones..look at dates they were born and died if there are dates to begin with..and cause it's a small island..i wonder who i'm realted to.my black history is Marcus Garvey,our great reggae aitists..and jus jamaican and west indian people in general.

Thats just it, why is your history only limited to Jamaica, we all played a part in Black history no matter if you were a black manborn in a family that was born in france, if your black then you are apart of Black history, don't confuse family ancestory with Black history, I could see you restricting your ancestory to just Jamaica(which I wouldn't personally do because I learned that Jamaicans have roots in africa) but not Black history....it can't be restricted to regions..its worldwide.
