Posey Goes To the Hornets

this is a good pick-up by the Hornets kinda vex he left the celtics tho'

HORNETS SIGN JAMES POSEY

The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have signed free agent guard/forward James Posey. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

“I am excited to be a Hornet, it was a coveted destination for me and I am glad that we were able to come to terms,” Posey said. “I can not wait to play alongside Chris Paul, David West, Tyson Chandler and so many other great players on this team.”

Posey (6-8, 217), a native of Cleveland, Ohio, has career averages of 9.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 28.0 minutes in 663 career games (477 starts), while shooting 41.6 percent from the field. The nine-year veteran has played for five NBA teams, winning NBA Championships with Miami in 2006 and Boston in 2008. During the Celtics’ title run, he averaged 6.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in 26 postseason appearances off the bench. In his career, Posey has appeared in 60 playoff games, averaging 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.

“We are thrilled to sign James, he was a target of ours from the very beginning,” General Manager Jeff Bower said. “He brings experience, leadership, the ability to hit big shots and a championship mentality to our team. Mr. Shinn has once again stepped up to provide the resources for us to reach that next level.”

He was a strong candidate for Sixth Man of the Year last season, coming off the bench to score double figures in 26 games and contributing to the Celtics’ defensive effort as he led the squad in steals 15 times.

“James is a professional; he has won championships and steps up to any challenge thrown his way.” Head Coach Byron Scott said. “He is able to play both the shooting guard and small forward position for us and will be a valuable part as we pursue a championship next season.”

Posey’s strongest statistical season came in the 2003-04 campaign during a stint with Memphis. He started all 82 games, averaging 13.7 points and 4.9 rebounds. He hit 112 three-pointers and shot 47.8 percent from the field.
