King James Reports That He Will Stay With Cavs After 2010
In a bid to woo then-free-agent Trevor Ariza, LeBron James said he would remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers past 2010, ESPN reported Tuesday, citing an unnamed source close to Ariza.
Ariza spurned the Cavs for the Houston Rockets, although it doesn't become official until the contract is signed. No contracts can be officially signed until Wednesday.
But James, who can become a free agent in 2010, apparently said he would not be leaving Cleveland.
"Trevor asked LeBron if he would be in Cleveland after next season," the source said, ESPN reported. "And LeBron said, 'I'll be there. Of course, I'll be there.'"
Ariza considered James' comment a recruiting tool and didn't put much stock in the comment, ESPN reported.
James couldn't be reached for comment, ESPN reported. The Cavaliers star has yet to commit publicly to returning to Cleveland.
