Next Gen iPhone to Come With 5MP Camera?

Could the next generation of iPhone come with a 5 megapixel camera?*
Taiwanese publication DigiTimes apparently thinks so. In an article published today, the website cites industry sources to claim that CMOS image sensor (CIS) manufacturer OmniVision Technologies has secured a contract to deliver 5MP CIS to Apple.*

Here is more of what we know - OmniVision sees a terrific jump in demand for the next generation of iPhones as compared to iPhone 3GS. According to DigiTimes, the company shall be delivering close to 45 million units in 2010 - more than double of the 21 million units of 3.2MP image sensors that the company shipped this year. The company also claims that an additional 20 million units are being shipped for iPods; presumably iPod Touch.*
If the report is true, then Apple can bridge one of the obvious gaps that has existed between the iPhone and Motorola Droid. Incidentally, Droid's 5MP camera has been one of the many features that Verizon has exploited to attack the iPhone in its ad campaigns.*
However, this news has to be taken with a grain of salt. It may be recalled that back in April of this year, DigiTimes had claimed that OmniVision had secured orders for both 3.2MP and 5MP image sensors. Back then we had speculated if the 5MP camera could be for a "separate product" to be launched later in the year. As we now know, the report turned out to be false.*
But the rumor could very well be true this time considering the increasing competition among smartphone manufacturers. We have already heard rumors about new iPhone models coming with larger memory. If iPhone models with 64GB memory and 5MP cameras indeed become a reality, then expect the tides to turn strongly back in Apple's favor.*

Camera smamera my Sprint hero already got a 5mp lol... i want flash oled screen and an Alot better battery for the iphone
