Kulcha Don Interview - Prelease of Its all About You
So how are you doing today?
Today is a good day, working hard as usual.
What made you want to become a performer, and what was the driving force behind it?
It started out as a hobby and a love for music, it was a natural thing, moving to the Bronx and collaborating with other artists, working with c and c music factory, that drove me home, and made me realize what I wanted to do.
Ok I see u was inspired by Shabba Ranks, Ninja, and Shaggy for your music. Did any other artist or artists from other genre's inspired you.
Yah, man. I listen to all general music; I am never too good at the name of the artists, but Michael Jackson, prince, who motivated me.
So tell me the first single Drive you Crazy is that motivated by any fact in your life.
No, not really, It is the art form, beanie man being a lady’s man dj, and me being that same we just basically, sang what the ladies want to hear.
So what was it like to work with the Doctor on that single. How did that union come about.
Me and beanie man have known each other since 1996. Met on a tour with the fugees in Atlanta, and have been close friends ever since. Working with Beanie man was fun because here is to friends finally getting a chance to work professionally
I was reading in your bio you worked with some heavy hitters such as biggie, tupac, the fugees, cc music factory. What was it like to work with some legends, and what type of experience did u take from it.
Biggie and tupac was onstage work, the fugees and and cc music factory recorded, and I learned a whole lot, they defiantly formed Kulcha Don into who I am.
Are there any artists that u would like to colloborate with?
My good friend Gwen Stefani. I love her work, and would love to collaborate with her. DMX as well, Kanye West.
So your from Montserrat, do people tend to think u come from another island a lot. Besides soca artists are u like the one of first dancehall artists to come from there.
Yes, people naturally think I am from Jamaica, I am the first signed reggae artist to come from there, but there are MANY reggae artists in Montserrat.
Now for your female fans, Kulcha are u single or is there a special person in your life.
I am married to music right now. Hopefully later when I get some times to think about someone special
If you was not doing music what would u being doing?
Playing NBA basketball
What hobbies and activities do you take up while not recording or on the road performing.
Basketball, I love traveling with my friends, casino’s, and just chilling on the beach.
Is there any advice u can give to all the upcoming artists out there?
Definitely, I think the first thing is that artists has to know if they have the talent or not…American Idol can tell you that people actually think they have it when they don’t, and after you know you got it, then put in all the hard work that goes with it, and there is no short cuts…All work is hard work!
